Bennetta Backed to Win 2013 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap – Odds

Grahame Begg’s smart Sydney filly Bennetta is being well supported to steal the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap 2013 trophy from the locals this Saturday opening favourite for the feature at the Gold Coast.

The three-year-old daughter of General Nediym has had just four career starts to date breaking her maiden status just last run when she scored an impressive two and a half length victory over Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes winner She’s A Stalker in a handicap at Canterbury on December 29.

For that run Bennetta, one of 16 chances in Saturday’s $164,000 R.M. Williams Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m), was ridden by James McDonald from a favourable barrier five draw.

Saturday she faces a tougher test with McDonald retaining the ride but drawing wide with gate 13.

The bookies are taking no chances however with Bennetta topping the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap betting markets at a quote of $3.

Three of her rivals are also at single-figures in the MM Fillies & Mares Handicap odds with:

  • #7 Mosse Diva ($4.20) – David Hayes-trained Victorian mare coming off some good spring form that included three straight wins over 1400m in Sydney back in October, hasn’t finished out of the money since August, distance just short of her preferred and yet to see Queensland but a genuine chance
  • #1 Capital Commander ($5) – Nick Olive-trained Canberra raider has the 58kg top-weight but the class to overcome, Glyn Schofield to ride this market mover who has been one of the best backed in the field following three consecutive second place finishes
  • #6 Cuddlesome ($8) – Canny Lad mare from Brisbane out for her first win since September which was her fourth on the trot, has been consistent since and distance looks ideal

Other chances that have claims to score an upset in the Gold Coast Race 3 on the weekend then include Playtime ($10) after their third win on the trot the most recent being over 1200m at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day, and the Bryan Guy-trained local Ferocity mare Crazy Mamma ($17) also coming off a last start victory at the track.
