Black Caviar is currently in a battle to lose weight before her long-awaited return to the track this autumn racing carnival.
The six-year-old has not had a run since her victory in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes in England in June last year.
While initial reports claimed that the mare had in excess of 70 kilograms to lose, it has now been confirmed the number is closer to 30 kilograms.
Pre-trainer Peter Clarke is confident that she will be back to her best ahead of her proposed first start in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes on February 16, 2013.
“She’s a big, strong girl now, probably bigger and stronger than she’s ever been,” Clarke said.
“Instead she simply will have to do the hard yards before, hopefully, she shows her broad beam once again to her rivals.”
Trainer Peter Moodyconfirmed that he was not concerned by Black Caviar’s recent weight increase.
“She’s a big girl and she’s allowed to put on a little bit,” he mused.
Moody expects all to go well ahead of her first race start this autumn carnival and beginning of her farewell tour.
“(We’re) looking forward to running on the 16th of February, everyone’s invited,” he said.
“I’m hopeful and quietly confident that will be the case.”
However, the trainer would be quick to pull the plug on her final race campaign should she show signs of not being her usual self.
“She doesn’t need the practise and neither do we.”
