Peter Moody-trained gelding Brambles has been ruled out of both the 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival and the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival after suffering a tendon injury.
OTI Racing broke the news on twitter this morning that the four-year-old will miss his second straight campaign after travel sickness saw him withdrawn from the spring.
“Unfortunately Brambles has suffered tendon injury. It’s severity is still to be fully assessed but Autumn for him is out,” OTI Racing said on twitter.
The Savabeel gelding was considered to be a potential cups contender in the spring and was likely to have some big Group 1 targets had he lined up in the autumn.
He was one of the stars of the 2012 Brisbane Winter Carnival as he finished third in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic over 1600m before dominating the three-year-old staying races.
The front-runner won both the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate and the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes before scoring his first Group 1 win in the Queensland Derby.
He left many in the racing community excited about the fact Australia may have a local hope to take on the Europeans in our biggest staying events before the illness intervened prior to the spring.
Brambles has won five of 10 starts and secured placings on four other occasions on his way to more than $570,000 in prizemoney.
