The hype may be all about Sydney filly Assail and Melbourne gelding Clevadude in the lead-up to the 2013 Magic Millions Classic but there are two Queensland fillies who will be out to knock off the favourites.
Apart from the fact that Missy Longstocking ($8) and Real Surreal ($9) are the only two runners outside the favourites to fall under double figures in the betting market, they have both produced results that show they are ready to compete in the high pressure two-year-old race.
Missy Longstocking will be ridden by experienced jockey Damian Browne from a favourable barrier five position and brings a sensational early career resume into Saturday’s test.
The Liam Birchley-trained filly is unbeaten from four starts with her two most recent wins coming at stakes level in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes and the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes.
Real Surreal hasn’t been quite as dominant but has also drawn favourably in barrier three and boasts a record of two wins from three starts.
The daughter of Real Saga will be backing up just seven days after dominating her rivals to the tune of 3 1/2 lengths at Eagle Farm in the Sirromet Love Sparkling Handicap but trainer Kelso Wood is confident she will be ready to go.
“She’s showed [ability] from day one but she’s taken time to really come to the fore,” Wood said.
“I think there’s a lot of improvement in her, she’ll take some improvement from last week and I think the 1200m will suit her better.
“When she comes back as a three-year-old she’s going to be a really, really serious racehorse.”
