Broadmeadow trainer Darren Smith is hoping his smart young filly Dream Forward can earn her connections a minor consolation prize when she runs at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday after failing to gain a start in the weekend’s major juvenile race – the 2013 Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.
Having had just one run to date when a good third to clear Magic Millions Classic betting favourite Assail in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic back in December, nicely bred Charge Forward filly Dream Forward has amassed just $18,000 in prize money to date.
That figure was not enough to earn her a start in Saturday’s $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), a race Smith is confident Dream Forward could have been competitive in.
“Other than the winner (Assail) I thought she was the run of the race at Wyong,” Smith said.
Instead the up-and-comer will have a much easier second-up assignment when she contests the $85,000 2YO Plate (1100m) in Sydney, Kathy O’Hara on standby for the ride, a good performance in which could set her up for a big Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival 2013.
There is still a chance however that Smith will save her second career run for later in the year should she draw unsuitably wide in the Rosehill race.
“If she gets a decent barrier she’ll run at Rosehill,” he said.
“If she doesn’t she’ll go to the paddock.”
The major two-year-olds’ race of the autumn, which Dream Forward could eventually be prepared for, is the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) run at Rosehill on April 6, 2013.
