She may have shortened in the 2013 Magic Millions Classic market following yesterday’s inside barrier draw but Assail trainer Clarry Conners thinks the position stands as one of the main obstacles to her achieving success in the $2 million feature.
“I’m scared of the barrier, that’s the biggest problem,” Conners told Radio Sports National.
The exciting filly is a clear favourite at $2.70 but Conners is concerned the barrier may see her get “decked against the fence” especially given her small stature.
“I don’t want to lead. I might have to sit down and work out what to do,” he said.
But apart from the barrier draw, the Warwick Farm trainer is confident he has the right horse to win the glamour two-year-old race and she has certainly signalled plenty of potential in her career starts to date.
The daughter of Charge Forward cruised to a comfortable win at Warwick Farm on debut in November before backing that up in the Wyong Magic Millions last month with a convincing three-length display.
In a testament to Assail’s ability, Conners said she would “easily” beat Mirror Mirror who he trained to Magic Millions victory in 2006.
“She amazes this horse. She’s untapped because of the size and everything. I haven’t done much with her. She just does it all herself,” Conners said.
“She relaxes, she just does everything you want her to do.”
Craig Williams flew to Sydney on Saturday for an exhibition gallop aboard the exciting youngster before he rides her for the first time on race day at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
“He’s pretty happy. It was good to get him up to ride her. He was happy,” Conners said.
