Chester Manifold Stakes 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

While most of the racing world will be focused on the Gold Coast this Saturday for the 2013 Magic Millions Carnival, there is still exciting action going on around the rest of the country including at Flemington which hosts the Listed 2013 Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m).

An 11-horse field has been named to contest the $120,000 event, with Tony Vasil-trained gelding Veewap set to carry the topweight of 59kg.

The son of Lonhro has not been at his best in recent times but should take plenty of fitness improvement from his first-up sixth in the Christmas Stakes on Boxing Day.

He showed his ability during the Spring Carnival when he won the Dream Thoroughbreds Plate and finished third in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes.

Joining Veewap in the field is his stablemate Under The Eiffel who will need to show a form turnaround after running sixth in the Spotless Plate last start.

Spotless Plate winner Future Solution will be out to string back-to-back wins together and has drawn barrier eight as he attempts to score his first black-type win.

Also out to continue recent good form is Ballarat-based gelding British General who has won his two most recent starts at Flemington.

The in-form galloper from the stable of Dan O’Sullivan was most recently seen on New Year’s Day winning by nearly a length in the George Watson Handicap.

Second on that day was Dash For Viz who gets the chance to turn the tables on British General after drawing well in barrier four from where he will carry the minimum weight of 54kg.

Others contesting the Chester Manifold Stakes include Peter Moody’s Cosmic Causeway and veteran gelding Rockpecker.
