Rock ‘N’ Pop Heads Takeover Target Stakes 2013 Field

Gai Waterhouse-trained four-year-old Rock ‘N’ Pop heads a 10-horse field for the Listed 2013 Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) which will take place at Gosford on Thursday.

The former New Zealand galloper will be having his first race since August when his spring campaign was cut short after just one start when he succumbed to injury during the Warwick Stakes.

That was his only start to date under Waterhouse who will aim the Fastnet Rock entire at the 2013 Doncaster Mile at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Rock ‘N’ Pop was a Group 1 winner in the 2000 Guineas in New Zealand and also placed in both the Group 1 Darci Brahma International Stakes and the New Zealand Derby.

Joining the entire in the Takeover Target Stakes is Darley-owned galloper Soledad who will be running first-up after performing consistently during the winter and early spring.

In a six-start campaign the Commands gelding secured two victories and finished in the minor placings on the other occasions.

There is only one last-start winner in the field, with Testarythm out to back up his win in a BM85 event at Canterbury on December 29.

The Darren Smith-trained gelding will be out to score the first black-type win of his career when he jumps from barrier eight with Blake Shinn in the saddle.

Kris Lees-trained galloper Uate is a Group 3 winner after winning the Skyline Stakes in March 2011 and broke a long drought in November when winning at Canterbury.

But the Ad Valorem gelding will have to bounce back from a disappointing effort last start when he finished 11th at Rosehill on December 15.

Others in the Takeover Target Stakes field include talented country performer Maroney Avenue, topweight Willy Jimmy from the Ron Quinton stable and Canberra gelding Zaratone.

When markets open later in the week on all the Gosford Cup carnival action, head to for outstanding odds and betting options.
