Dear Demi Kicks Off Oaks Campaign in Light Fingers Stakes 2013

Last spring’s Crown Oaks champ Dear Demi will gear up for another big Oaks campaign this time in Sydney during the autumn with trainer Clarry Conners having penciled in the 2013 Light Fingers Stakes in mid-February for her resuming run.

Dear Demi

Dear Demi is set to resume racing in the 2013 Light Fingers Stakes in February

The daughter of Dehere boasts an excellent record of four wins and six minor placings from her 15 career starts so far with four Group 1 runs already under her belt.

She is also yet to finish out of the money at elite level having finishing second to Pierro in the Champagne Stakes, third to Norzita in the Flight Stakes and second to Commanding Jewel in the Thousand Guineas before her smart one and a quarter length victory over Zydeco in the Crown Oaks over 2500m at Flemington on November 8 last year.

Master trainer Conners is again eyeing an Oaks trophy with the $1.13 million earner naming the $550,000 group 1 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 20 during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival as Dear Demi’s major new season aim.

Having progressed well since her Crown Oaks success Dear Demi is nearing her return in the $175,000 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm Racecourse on February 16, a race last year’s Australian Oaks winner Streama ran a first-up second in, on the back of one trial.

Connections will then likely follow the traditional Australian Oaks path with his star filly racing second-up in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) back at Warwick Farm on March 9.

Duncan Grimley, racing manager for Dear Demi’s owner John Singleton, confirmed that connections were pleased with the filly’s condition after spending a good four weeks in the paddock.

“We actually got a month’s spell into her and we didn’t think she would get that long a break,” Grimley said.

“The little bit of extra time in the paddock has done wonders for her.

“She’s been back in work a couple of weeks now and Clarry is really happy with her.”
