2013 Magic Millions Guineas Barriers – Sizzling Suffers with Gate 20

Hot early favourite to take out Saturday’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2013 on the Gold Coast, the Kelso Wood-trained Brisbane visitor Sizzling has suffered a nasty blow drawing the second worst barrier for the feature with gate 20.

Sizzling

Sizzling has suffered a horror barrier 20 draw for Saturday's Magic Millions 3YO Guineas

The smart Snitzel colt, who suffered a shock loss when running second to Lucky Hussler on the back of luckless run in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 29, has been dominating the markets for the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) over the past few weeks.

Already a Group 1 winner back home during last year’s Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, Sizzling will have no easy task taking out the weekend’s feature race for his age however after drawing barrier 20 of 21 for the MM Guineas, coming into 16 of 16 if none of the five emergencies gain a run.

Sizzling’s last start conqueror Lucky Hussler from the local stables of Kent Fleming meanwhile has also drawn horribly for the rematch with gate 17.

The Husson colt enjoyed back-to-back wins back in November before their fourth to Sizzling in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) and then their turning of the tables when getting the better of Brisbane’s spruik colt by a mere short half-head in the Vo Rogue.

Other notable fancies in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas field that have also drawn awkwardly with double-digit gates include Rob Heathcote’s Vo Rogue Plate third placed Heza Jetsetter (12), Stuart Kendirck’s Bradbury’s Lucky filly down from Mackay Avaladyluck (18) and the John O’Shea-trained triple stakes winner in Brisbane Hoss Amor (19).

Gai Waterhouse’s reigning Magic Millions Classic winner Driefontein meanwhile was the big winner for her return to Magic Millions Day this summer having drawn ideally with gate three for Saturday.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock was untouchable over her opening four career starts as a two-year-old last spring – summer season including her protest win over stablemate No Looking Back in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic 12 months ago.

She had just one run when second to Snitzerland in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) having failed to come on as a three-year-old during the autumn before resuming off a four month break with another surprise loss this time to She’s A Stalker in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m).

Waterhouse’s first-over-the-line in the MM Classic last year, No Looking Back, is also back looking for atonement on Saturday after she was regulated to second in the juvenile’s feature.

She has also drawn favourably for her return to the glitter strip with Blake Shinn to ride the Redoute’s Choice filly, coming off a first-up win in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on New Year’s Day, from barrier five.

Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes winner She’s A Stalker is also in the mix again on Saturday with the inside alley, Angela Davies’ Ferocity filly having been defeated last time out when a distant second in a 1250m race at Canterbury on December 29.

Also drawn well are the likes of the Bryan Guy-trained local hope Regular (2) and Chris Waller’s Sydney raider Grand Business (4).
