Queensland filly Real Surreal threw her name into the mix as a genuine 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) contender on Saturday when annihilating her rivals in the Sirromet Love Sparkling Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The Kelso Wood-trained youngster had already made the field for Saturday’s $2 million race but will now have plenty of rivals wary after a dominant 3 1/2 length display.
The impressive win came on the back of a third-place finish at Doomben in December and a debut win at Eagle Farm on November 24.
She has shortened considerably in the betting market for the glamour two-year-old race and now shares the fifth line of betting with Greytfilly at $13.
Wood has no concerns about the seven-day turnaround heading into the Gold Coast feature, describing Real Surreal as “tough as old boot leather.”
“She’s a great doer and will improve again for the Magic Millions. The extra distance is going to be right up her alley,” Wood said.
Wood also said he has no concerns about her adapting to the tight Gold Coast track, suggesting if “the horse is ridden the right way they can all handle the Gold Coast.”
Currently heading the market for the Magic Millions Classic is unbeaten Clarry Connors-trained filly Assail ($3.50) who is only slightly ahead of Rick Hore-Lacy’s Clevadude ($3.70).
Following the pair is Queensland’s top hope Missy Longstocking ($7) who remains unbeaten after four career outings.
Others towards the top end of the Magic Millions betting include Gai Waterhouse-trained pair Certitude ($11) and Sweet Idea ($15) and Robert Heathcote’s Greytfilly ($13).
