Gosford Gold Cup 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Gerald Ryan-trained veteran Ironstein heads a 13-horse field for Thursday’s Listed $125,000 2013 Gosford Cup (2100m).

Ironstein

Ironstein will carry the topweight in the Gosford Cup

The seven-year-old will carry the topweight of 59kg and while he hasn’t won since November 2011, he produced a number of Spring Carnival performances that suggested the next victory is not too far away.

He finished third in both the Group 3 JRA Cup and Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup as well as running second behind 2013 Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Ironstein will be running first-up in the Gosford Cup as will Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Reuben Percival who also produced some impressive results without winning in the spring.

The tough stayer finished third in the Group 1 Metropolitan behind Glencadam Gold and also ran second in the Listed Sandown Cup.

Reuben Percival will be ridden by James McDonald from barrier five, a far more favourable position than Ironstein who received little luck with barrier 11.

Nine-year-old Fiumicino will line up for his 41st start, having regained form during the spring.

The team Hawkes-trained gelding was third in the Bendigo Cup before winning the ATC Cup at Warwick Farm and was most recently seen finishing third in the Listed Christmas Cup.

Fiumicino has won six times from 40 starts including twice at Group 1 level which has seen him collect over $3 million in prizemoney.

Chasing a fourth straight win but stepping up in class is David Atkins-trained mare Panko who was most recently seen winning a midweek race at Canterbury.

Other last-start winners in the field are the Gai Waterhouse-trained Travolta and Chris Waller’s Tattersall’s Club Cup winner Moriarty.
