Assail Heads 2013 Magic Millions Classic Field

Clarry Conners’ unbeaten filly Assail heads the field for Saturday’s 2 million 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) which will take place at the Gold Coast.

Missy Longstocking joins Assail and Clevadude as one of three unbeaten horses in the Magic Millions Classic field

Final acceptances were taken this morning for the two-year-old feature and as expected a full 16-horse field and five emergencies have been named.

Assail earned favouritism for the race on the back of two wins to kick start her career including a three-length hammering of her rivals in the Wyong Magic Millions race on December 20.

She is joined by two other unbeaten horses in the field, with Clevadude producing two strong performances in Melbourne and Queensland filly Missy Longstocking flying the flag for the locals after four unbeaten outings.

The Rick Hore-Lacy-trained Clevadude dominated with a 3 1/2 length win on debut at Cranbourne on December 15 and backed it up at Moonee Valley on the final Saturday in December with a 4 1/2 length start-to-finish display.

Missy Longstocking was untouchable in the first two starts of her career in October and November and returned in outstanding fashion in December to win both the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes and the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes.

But there is plenty of talent among the rest of the field who will be out to knock off the favourites including Kelso Wood-trained filly Real Surreal who produced a stunning win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

While the Gold Coast will be new to most of the runners in the field, one horse that has already shown a liking for the track is Tony Gollan’s filly Global Dream who won the Ladies Day Handicap there on New Year’s Day.

Gai Waterhouse produced a quinella in the race last year with Driefontein and No Looking Back and she will again have two strong chances with Certitude and Sweet Idea.

Sweet Idea is coming off a runner-up finish in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes while Certitude will need to bounce back from a fourth at Wyong but signs are positive with Tommy Berry electing to stick with her.

Others in the Magic Millions Classic field include local hope Purrific, Clockwise Classic winner I’m Too Sexy and Toowoomba colt Sir Luminar.
