Warrnambool colt Ticket To Toorak will head into Saturday week’s $2 million 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) as one of the outsiders but that doesn’t mean he is without a chance.
The Matthew Williams-trained youngster flew to Queensland earlier this week ahead of the glamour two-year-old race for which he is currently rated a $51 chance.
Despite the big price tag, Ticket To Toorak has shown promise thus far, winning on debut in the City Of Ballarat Plate before showing a solid adaptation to the Queensland direction when running second in the Clockwise Classic at Ballarat.
While Williams is confident the son of Northern Meteor can compete in the lucrative event on the glitter strip, he is sweating on the barrier draw which will take place on Tuesday.
“We just hope to draw an inside barrier in the race,” He told the Warrnambool Standard.
“I reckon the first eight barriers are the best to have in a race like this.”
Many of the owners are from Warrnambool and they will be making the trip north to cheer on the exciting colt.
Ticket To Toorak is likely to gallop at the Gold Coast on Saturday but Williams has ensured there is little work left to do and he will have an easy week in the lead-up to the race with some light cantering and time at the beach on the agenda.
Favourite for the Magic Millions is Clarry Connors-trained filly Assail ($2.8) who is unbeaten from two starts as is next best in the market Clevadude ($3.60).
Others featuring towards the top end of Magic Millions betting include Queensland fillies Greytfilly ($11) and Missy Longstocking ($13) and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Certitude ($18).
