Gerald Ryan-trained colt Dothraki has been ruled out of next weekend’s $2 million 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) with an infection.
The colt was rated a $16 chance in the Gold Coast feature and it comes as disappointing news for connections who would have been optimistic of his chances following a win at Canterbury on Saturday.
An elevated temperature was the key indicator for Ryan who admitted surprise as the horse had been doing well since Saturday’s victory.
The Mossman colt will be treated with antibiotics for the next five days before heading to the spelling paddock.
Ryan was in two minds following Saturday’s victory as to whether the youngster would be up to Magic Millions class especially after he failed at Wyong on December 20.
The emerging youngster still obviously has plenty to learn, with Ryan suggesting he has shown more at home than he has on race day so far.
Even before his charge was out of the hunt for Magic Millions glory, the experienced Sydney trainer was always wary of Magic Millions favourite Assail who heads the market at $2.80.
”Assail is very fast, very nippy and it was a strong race [at Wyong],” Ryan said.”
“I watched Clevadude but it’s hard to get a line on him. There was not a lot of pressure on him.”
Trained by Clarry Connors, Assail’s dominant three-length win in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO event came on the back of a strong debut win at Warwick Farm in November.
