Cairns-based gelding He’s A Ladies Man can earn a start in the $2 million 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast when he arrives in the big smoke to take on his southern rivals at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The Trevor Rowe-trained youngster currently sits in 23rd position in the Magic Millions order of entry with $32,000 in prizemoney and a first or second place finish this weekend would guarantee him a start.
A son of All Bar One, He’s A Ladies Man is unbeaten from two starts, winning on debut at Townsville in October before backing up later that month to win by 1 1/2 lengths in Cairns.
The emerging galloper will contest the Sirromet Love Sparking QTIS 2YO Handicap on Saturday for which he has been allocated the topweight of 58kg in a full 14-horse field.
But he will only have to carry the minimum of 55.5kg with three kilogram claiming apprentice Braydn Swaffer booked to ride.
Among his rivals are Robert Heathcote’s debut winner She’s A Danica and a number of first starters.
Rowe is not getting too carried away but is confident his charge is in good order for the race and admits he will be disappointed if he doesn’t finish among the placegetters.
“You know what racing’s like. You’re on top of the world today and on the bottom of the pile tomorrow but at moment he’s ticked all the boxes,” Rowe said.
The lightly-raced gelding arrived in the southeast late last month and showed the trip south did not cause any problems as he impressed in a barrier trial at Toowoomba on December 27.
