Group 2 winner Wild And Proud will make a trip to the Brisbane 2013 Winter Carnival where he will be aimed at the Group 1 $1 million 2013 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
The four-year-old has recently left the stable of Gai Waterhouse to join David Pfeiffer at Warwick Farm who will take the gelding north this winter along with New Day Rising and Gai’s Choice.
The recent stable addition can be inconsistent but has shown plenty of talent in the early stages of his career with the major highlight being an upset win in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1600m) where he beat the well-regarded Manawanui.
Other key results since that day include a third-place finish in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes in the autumn and another third in the Group 3 Bill Ritchite Handicap in September.
He has recorded just three wins from 14 starts but has finished in the minor placings on another five occasions on his way to more than $230,000 in prizemoney.
Pfieffer has singled out the Stradbroke Handicap as a major target as he believes Wild And Proud, along with New Day Rising, can get into Queensland’s biggest race with a light weight.
Another reason for taking the pair to Queensland is there are plenty more options if they fail to make the cut in the top grade and other events they could contest include the 2013 Glasshouse Handicap and the 2013 Weetwood Handicap.
Pfieffer took Gai’s Choice to last year’s Brisbane carnival after she scored back-to-back wins in Sydney and she continued her success with a win in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) and a third-place honours in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara.
