Magic Millions Classic 2013 Betting Update – Assail V Clevadude

The market for the 2013 Magic Millions Classic is dominated by two horses ahead of the $2 million juvenile feature which will take place at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.

Missy Longstocking

Missy Longstocking Stands as one of the challengers to favourites Assail and Clevadude in the Magic Millions Classic

Clarry Connors-trained filly Assail is favourite at $2.80 but not far away is Rick Hore-Lacy’s talented gelding Clevadude ($2.60).

Both horses recorded back-to-back victories to begin their careers, with Assail backing up a Warwick Farm win in November to lead from start to finish and take out the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO event by three lengths last month.

Clevadude has probably beaten weaker fields but was dominant both on debut at Cranbourne on December 15 and at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Speaking after Saturday’s win, Hore-Lacy was oozing confidence heading towards the Magic Millions.

“There’ll be plenty of opposition but this bloke will take some beating particularly if he’s lucky enough to draw a gate,” Hore-Lacy said.

“He’s got the perfect temperament for a racehorse. He looks the real deal doesn’t he.”

No horse comes close to the top pair in the betting market, with Queensland youngsters Greytfilly ($11) and Missy Longstocking ($13) the next best.

Greytfilly possesses clear talent but will have to sort out the barrier problems that were evident when she missed the start on her way to a runner-up finish in the Ladies Day Handicap at the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

Missy Longstocking has been one of the most impressive two-year-olds in the lead-up to the Magic Millions, having won all four of her career starts including the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.

Gai Waterhouse generally has a strong hand in the Magic Millions event and her two best chances in betting are Certitude and Sweet Idea who are both paying $18.

Others in the Magic Millions market include Dothraki ($16), Real Surreal ($18), Calcatta ($26) and Sir Luminar ($26).
