Ironstein heads nominations for Thursday's Gosford Cup

The seven-year-old is one of 13 entries for the Gosford feature which will be his first start since the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

While the son of Zabeel was unable to taste top honours during a lengthy spring campaign, he took his prize pool to more than $835,000 with some impressive performances.

Highlights included placing in the Group 3 JRA Cup, Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes as well as finishing fourth in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes.

Joining the winner of eight of 47 starts in Gosford Cup nominations is in-form import Moriarty who will be out to back up his strong win in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup (2000m) on Tuesday.

The five-year-old is one of three Chris Waller-trained entrants with the others being fellow imports Marden and Pipette.

High profile Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse has entered two runners with Reuben Percival and Travolta with the latter chasing his third win from four starts.

Former New Zealand galloper Travolta has shown plenty of promise since joining Waterhouse’s Randwick team, winning first-up at Rosehill in November before an eighth-placed hiccup at Rosehill was turned around at Canterbury on Saturday with another victory.

Reuben Percival will be running for the first time since November when he produced a strong staying performance to finish second in the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m).

The six-year-old gelding had a successful spring campaign that saw him place at Group 1 level in the Metropolitan and also run second in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup.

Others horses in Gosford Cup nominations include David Payne’s veteran Praecido and Darley galloper Euryale.
