Talent Show Wins 2013 Peth Cup in Upset

Long-priced outsider Talent Show produced shock upset to upstage her more-fancied rivals in the Group 2 2013 Perth Cup (2400m) on Tuesday.

Paying $31, the six-year-old only gained a start in the field when favourite Chester Road was scratched but showed she was more than up to the task when producing an outstanding finish to beat home Mr Moet and Global Flirt.

The Graeme Ballantyne-trained mare was near last at the home turn before being kicked into gear by Jarrad Noske who steered her perfectly through the field to top honours in the $500,000 feature.

Noske admitted to some surprise as to just how well the daughter of Jeune was able to run home as she recorded the fifth victory of her career from 30 starts.

“I didn’t know she was going to let down so well, I thought we can run into the money here but she just gave me such a good turn-of-foot,” Noske said.

Ballantyne said it was a “dream” to win the Cup but he too never thought it would really eventuate.

“It’s a race we picked out a long time ago but not really expecting to win it, we just went out there to do our best and run a good race,” Ballantyne said.

“It’s unbelievable, you dream about winning this race.”

Favourite Mr Moet was heavily backed ($3.50) and produced a bold effort with 59kg to run second ahead of an east-coast autumn campaign.

The Perth Cup may be over for another year but the exciting summer racing action is just heating up so head to bookmaker.com.au to back a winner.
