Sizzling Upset by Lucky Hussler in 2012 Vo Rogue Plate

Odds-on favourite Sizzling has been defeated in a shock upset by Lucky Hussler in the Group 3 2012 Vo Rogue Plate (1200m) at Doomben today.

He may have jumped a $1.45 favourite compared to the $21 of Lucky Hussler but the outsider was good enough to resist a late charge from Queensland’s number one three-year-old.

Sizzling was ridden midfield by Chris Munce but found trouble entering the straight around the tight Doomben corner as he was blocked for a run.

The clearing eventually came but by then it was too late as Lucky Hussler held off a late dash to take his career record to three wins from six starts.

Trained by Kent Fleming on the Gold Coast, Lucky Hussler now stands as a genuine contender for the 2013 Magic Millions Guineas having won three of his past four starts.

The son of Husson put back-to-back wins together in Brisbane in November before finishing fourth to Sizzling in the Gold Edition Plate.

The Kelso Wood-trained Sizzling is a clear favourite for the Magic Millions Guineas but a chink in his armour was revealed on the smaller Doomben track today.

He left plenty in awe last start when dominating the Gold Edition Plate at the roomy Eagle Farm but will need luck in running at the Gold Coast next month which is similar to Doomben.

Robert Heathcote-trained gelding Heza Jetsetter was mostly ignored in betting but produced a strong finish to claim third-place honours.

When Magic Millions market re-open following today’s meeting, the best place to back a winner will be

Home of the $400 bonus bet offer, is fully Australian owned and has excellent odds on all the top summer racing action.
