Star jockey Craig Williams has picked up the ride on top fancy Assail in the $2 million 2013 Magic Mllions Classic (1200m) which will take place at the Gold Coast on January 12.
The well-regarded rider now has two of the plum rides at the 2013 Magic Millions Carnival as he is also set to ride Sizzling in the 2013 Magic Millions Guineas in the absence of Chris Munce.
Assail has been ridden by Peter Robl in the first two starts of this career but the Sydney jockey will miss the Gold Coast carnival after receiving a careless riding suspension at Warwick Farm last weekend.
Assail was a $4.40 favourite for the lucrative two-year-old race prior to this weekend but markets are likely to be adjusted following today’s meetings.
The Clarry Connors-trained filly won by a length at Warwick Farm on debut before improving upon that to lead from start to finish in a three-length romp in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic.
In other Magic Millions news, fellow top chance Clevadude strengthened his claims at Moonee Valley today with a four-length win.
The Rick Hore-Lacy-trained gelding flew out of the gates and quickly finished off his rivals to back up his debut win at Cranbourne two weeks ago.
Hore-Lacy has always held the youngster in high regard and is confident heading towards the Magic Millions goal.
“He’s got the perfect temperament for a racehorse and he looks the real deal,” Hore-Lacy said.
“There’ll be plenty of opposition but this bloke will take some beating particularly if he’s lucky enough to draw a gate.”
