Standish Handicap 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

The final field has been announced for the Group 3 2013 Standish Handicap (1200m) which will take place at Flemington on Tuesday.

Sixteen horses will contest the $150,000 sprint including former Hong Kong star Good Ba Ba who has been allocated the topweight of 60.5kg.

The 11-year-old will be having his first start on Australian soil and his first race since April but nobody can deny his record.

In a stellar career in Hong Kong the son of Lear Fan won seven Group 1 races including three times in the prestigious Hong Kong Mile which attracts gallopers from all over the world.

Whether or not he can regain any of that spark is still to be seen but he faces a tough first-up ask after drawing barrier 15.

Bringing strong form into the race is Mark Kavanagh-trained sprinter Catapulted who was outstanding first-up when winning the Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.

The seven-year-old will be racing over his pet distance of 1200 metres and looks well placed in barrier six to add to his excellent record of 12 wins from 32 starts.

Also coming off a last-start win is Outlandish Lad who edged out Diplomatic Force to claim the Nightingales Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield on December 1.

The Dennis O’Leary-trained gelding proved he was more than up to this level in the autumn when winning at Listed level at Moonee Valley and also in the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes at Morphetville.

Stephen Brown‘s lightly-raced gelding Big Bear Rock will be out to add a second straight Flemington win to his record after a 1 1/2-length win in the Nowicki Carbone Handicap two weeks ago.

Others in the Standish Handicap field include promising mare Bonnie Mac, the Danny O’Brien’s last-start winner Adamantium and consistent gelding Hotham Heights.
