Sir Luminar Draws Wide – 2012 BJ McLachlan Stakes Field

Magic Millions Classic 2013 fancy Sir Luminar has drawn wide in barrier 12 for Saturday’s Group 3 2012 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben which is a key lead-up ahead of next month’s Gold Coast feature.

Missy Longstocking

The Toowoomba-based colt sits third ($8) in Magic Millions betting after rocketing into contention on debut at Eagle Farm last month when scoring a 1 1/2-length start-to-finish win in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes.

Trainer Michael Nolan was thrilled with the first-up win but is cautious about getting too carried away ahead of Saturday, recognising that he is running into far stronger competition.

“The 1200 metres won’t worry him but I’m more worried about the better class horses he’ll be running into this time, especially the fillies who’ll be carrying two kilograms less than him,” Nolan told AAP.

Among his top rivals are southern fillies I’m Too Sexy and Sweet Idea who both bring impressive form to Queensland.

I’m Too Sexy, trained by Mark Riley in Mornington, earned herself a Magic Millions berth last month when winning the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat by three lengths on debut.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea debuted in October with a win in the TAB Sprint Plate and backed up that performance with a close second in the Lidoran Group Plate at Rosehill in November.

Another exciting filly in the race is Missy Longstocking who has made a flying start to her career with three unbeaten outings.

After winning by margins of six and seven lengths in her first two starts, the Liam Birchley-trained filly returned below full fitness on December 15 but still managed to score a one-length win in the Calaway Gal Stakes.

Others contesting the BJ McLachlan Stakes include debut winners Northern Glory and Women Be Shopping and the Gillian Heinrich-trained Purrific who has finished runner-up in her first two career starts.
