Good Ba Ba to Make Australian Debut – Standish Handicap 2013 Nominations

Veteran former Hong Kong galloper Good Ba Ba will make his Australian debut at Flemington on Tuesday in the Group 3 2013 Standish Handicap (1200m).

The 11-year-old was transferred by connections to Rick Hore-Lacy at Caulfield earlier this year and is one of 25 nominations for the $150,000 New Year’s Day feature.

The son of Lear Fan had an outstanding career in Hong Kong, winning seven times at Group 1 level including three times in the prestigious Hong Kong Mile.

With 20 available spots in the field, a number of nominees will be cut but two who are guaranteed a start should connections accept are South Australian pair Outlandish Lad and Catapulted.

Outlandish Lad was a Group 3 winner in the DC McKay Stakes in April and brings good form into the race after taking out the Nightingales Handicap at Caulfield on December 1.

Also coming off a last-start win is the Mark Kavanagh-trained Catapulted who won the Listed Doveton Stakes by three lengths ahead of Undeniably earlier this month.

Set to have her first race since June is lightly-raced mare Bonnie Mac who showed outstanding promise during her first campaign on Australian soil earlier this year.

The five-year-old arrived in Australia on the back of two consecutive wins in New Zealand and proceeded to take the streak to five with three straight victories including in the Listed Proud Miss Stakes at Morphetville.

She failed in two starts at Group 2 and Group 1 level at the Brisbane Winter Carnival but has since undergone an operation which was undertaken to improve her breathing.

Also included in Standish Handicap nominations are the Darley-owned Soledad, Group 3 winner Elusive Touch and Danny O’Brien-trained gelding Adamantium.
