Boxing Day is always a day that hosts exciting race meetings in Australia and this Wednesday at Rosehill is no different with the card highlighted by the Group 3 2012 Summer Cup (2400m).
Currently heading the market at bookmaker.com.au for the Sydney feature is Tony McEvoy’s consistent import Le Roi who is paying $3.10 to record a fourth consecutive win as he attempts to qualify for bigger races next year.
Also chasing a fourth straight win and featuring towards the top of the market is Desleigh Forster-trained mare Poste Restante ($4) who has travelled down from Queensland to attempt victory in a higher grade.
Narrowly behind the pair is last-start runner-up Iggi Pop ($4.20) who is joined by Brightest ($9) as the other runners under double figures.
Not sure who to back in the Summer Cup? Keep reading as the Races.com.au form experts have been hard at work to bring you our very best selections.
#1 Poste Restante $4
Drawn the outside barrier but in just a small field of seven that is unlikely to be too big a factor and the horse has been consistent all preparation.
Has won four of five starts this preparation, including her last three straight, and the stable is flying.
Was narrowly beaten by Brambles when third at Group 3 level at the Queensland Winter Carnival so is more than up to this level and has been targeted at the race all preparation.
#3 Le Roi $3.10
Just seven horses in the field so no third dividend but it’s hard to look past the short-priced Le Roi to battle it out with Poste Restante for top honours.
Has improved each time he has stepped up in distance with his best result so far a three-length win over 2000m at Caulfield last start.
Looks a genuine stayer of the future and should appreciate the extra 400 metres on offered at Rosehill on Wednesday.
