Bernborough Handicap 2012 – Nominations Announced

The exciting Brisbane Summer Series action continues from Doomben this Saturday and one of the key races is the Listed 2012 Benborough Handicap (1600m).

Fillydelphia

Fillydelphia is one of two Robert Heathcote-trained mares nominated for the Bernborough Handicap

A strong 19-horse list of nominations has been announced for the $200,000 event which includes Robert Heathcote’s pair of quality mares Fire Up Fifi and Fillydelphia.

Fire Up Fifi scored the first black-type win of her career last start on December 15 when taking out the Listed Just Now Quality, a race in which Fillydelphia finished fourth.

The five-year-old grey signalled her potential for bigger things during the winter when she produced an outstanding campaign with five wins from seven starts.

But she faces a tough assignment on Saturday in a field that is set to include southern traveller Alma’s Fury.

The Kembla Grange-based gelding is likely to back up from an impressive second in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes on Saturday where he was beaten on the line by All Legal.

Also nominated to back up from Saturday is four-year-old gelding Morning Captain who rain a close second to Audacious Spirit in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes at Doomben.

Mr Light Blue benefited from the application of blinkers to win the Coca-Cola Amatil Handicap on December 15 and he will get a chance to string back-to-back wins together this weekend.

Leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody has entered Turnitup to make the trip north and the five-year-old will arive on the back of a solid third in the Spotless Handicap at Flemington on December 15.

Others included in Bernborough Handicap nominations are stakes winner Pepperwood, Norm Hilton-trained gelding Carry Me Bluey and former Sydney galloper Bid Spotter.
