2012 Villiers Stakes Form & Betting Guide

The Sydney Summer Racing Carnival’s showcase mile showdown runs at Warwick Farm Racecourse this Saturday, December 22, with the Villiers Stakes 2012 to take centre stage, the Races.com.au team’s insider form guide preview for which is detailed below.

Due to jump as Warwick Farm Race 6 at 4:20pm (AEST) the $175,000 Group 2 Inglis Villiers Stakes (1600m) has this year drawn a full field of 18 starters plus an emergency lying in wait.

Current Villiers Stakes betting odds are led by the Peter Snowden-trained Galah at $5.50, the Redoute’s Choice four-year-old last seen running an eye-catching third in the Festival Stakes – a traditional lead-up to the Villiers.

Other single-figure fancies in the market include the defending champ Monton ($7.50) who carries the 59kg top-weight from gate four and Matthew Smith’s in-form mare Cabernet ($8).

So this is what the markets are saying but what about the historical facts, betting stats and Villiers Stakes form guide?

  • The first emergency #19 Al’s Gold ($81) has drawn last year’s winning barrier (15) which will belong to #15 Alma’s Fury ($15) if they don’t get a run
  • There are three last start winners engaged in the race this year with #3 Kinnersley (Goulburn Cup, 1600m, Goulburn, 25/11/2012), #6 Shout Out Loud (Victoria Cup, 1440m, Caulfield, 01/12/2012) and #18 Holy Moly (3YO F BM80, 1500m, Rosehill, 08/12/2012)
