Zedi Knight Tops Christmas Stakes 2012 Nominations – Boxing Day Races

Brendan McCarthy’s veteran local galloper Zedi Knight tops the nominations, weights and ballot for the big race this Boxing Day, entries for the 2012 Christmas Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse next Wednesday, December 26, now out.

Last-start Flemington winner Adamantium is one of the top entries for Boxing Day's Christmas Stakes 2012

A bumper list of 27 nominees were taken for this year’s edition of the $120,000 Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) with Zeditave eight-year-old Zedi Knight, back to defend their title having won the race in fine style 12 months ago, out for successive victories in the Boxing Day feature.

Last year Zedi Knight broke an eight month winning drought to take out the Christmas Stakes and this year they also come off a losing streak not having won a race since.

They will be first-up next week not having raced since a disappointing eight at the track back in April over 1100m and will also have the hefty 60kg top-weight, last year’s winning hoop Jamie Mott booked for the ride, to overcome.

Following Zedi Knight in the Christmas Stakes nominations and weights are then Geelong galloper Elusive Touch (58.5kg), the consistent Tony Vasil-trained Veewap (58kg) and Oamaru Force eight-year-old Diplomatic Force (58kg) who resumed on December 1 with a close second at the track over 1100m behind Outlandish Lad when jumping from barrier 13 of 14.

Other horses coming off good recent form then include Stephen Brown’s Street Cry gelding Sea Lord who enjoyed a win at Moonee Valley during the Cox Plate Carnival, the Danny O’Brien-trained four-year-old Adamantium who enjoyed a good two length win at Flemington last Saturday, the Mark Kavanagh-trained Undeniably who ran second to stablemate Catapulted in the Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on December 8, and last-start winner of the Listed Tasmanian Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Launceston back in November Crunch Time.

The full 2012 Christmas Stakes nominations can be found below, final fields for the Boxing Day races due out early next week.
