Peter Moody is the sole Victorian trainer represented in Sydney’s Villiers Stakes 2012 this Saturday, the masterful horseman happy with the two pronged attack he will unleash in the Warwick Farm feature.
Moody accepted for both Shout Out Loud and Highly Recommended for this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Inglis Villiers Stakes (1600m), the Sydney Summer Racing Carnival feature heading the weekend’s racing.
Betting markets for the Villiers Stakes are currently led by the Peter Snowden-trained Galah ($5.50) and the defending champ Monton ($7.50) who ran two-three behind the currently sidelined Malavio in the Festival Stakes last time out.
A little further down the odds is Moody’s first runner Shout Out Loud who is one of the $14 chances in the capacity field after drawing on the rails in barrier one.
Former prepared by Kerry Petrick in Adelaide the Ne Coupez Pas gelding joined Moody’s Caulfield operation 12 months ago.
It was a bad start for the now seven-year-old as they bucked at the start of their new stable debut in the Christmas Stakes on Boxing Day and failed to finish.
They have had five runs over the past year including a good second to Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed in the Listed John Dillion Stakes (1400m) on Australia Day.
On December 1 Shout Out Loud posted their first win for Moody when running away to win the Victoria Cup (1440m) at Caulfield earning them their first trip to Sydney for the summer features starting with the Villiers on Saturday where they will be ridden by local hoop Josh Parr.
Moody’s other runner Highly Recommended meanwhile is one of the roughies in the Villiers Stakes odds paying $26, a generous price according to their trainer.
Drawn in double digits with barrier 11, Moody’s ace rider Luke Nolen engaged, the Fastnet Rock four-year-old comes off two disappointing runs this time in when ninth in both the Listed Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) to their Stradbroke Handicap winning stable-mate Mid Summer Music and the Victoria Cup.
Moody is hoping the stallion can return to their good form as a three-year-old which saw them five black type minor placings including their win in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley back in March where they defeated subsequent Australian Derby winner Ethiopia saying there was not much separating them and their more fancied stablemate in Saturday’s race.
“There is some upside with Highly Recommended,” Moody said.
“He’s a Group 2 winner at 1600m and I galloped them together at Caulfield the other morning and there was a cigarette paper between them.
“I think they’ve both got good chances; nothing between them.”
