Lord Stakes 2012 – Nominations Released

Nominations have been released for the Listed $120,000 2012 Lord Stakes which will take place at Mornington next Thursday.

Competition for spots is tough with 24 horses entered to fill the 14 available positions and there is no shortage of hopefuls with metropolitan experience.

Leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody has nominated emerging galloper White Universe who has won four of 12 starts and was most recently seen running third in the Dorevitch Pathology Handicap (1410m) at Flemington on December 15.

One in-form horse nominated is Secret Liaison who has been performing consistently at Victorian metropolitan tracks this preparation.

Trained by Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, the four-year-old mare finished second at her last start at Flemington and prior to that recorded back-to-back victories at Moonee Valley and Caulfield.

Also heading into the race on the back of recent success is Warrnambool-based gelding Full Peal who will be chasing a third consecutive victory.

The six-year-old boasts an impressive winning strike of 41 per cent with nin victories from 22 starts and has collected more than $220,000 in prizemoney.

Last year’s Lord Stakes winner Ulundi has been entered to defend his title after scoring a 1 1/2 length win over La Rocket last year.

The Pat Carey-trained gelding competed in some big events during the spring carnival without success but showed promise last start when fourth in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes.

Another seen in action at the Melbourne Spring Carnival was the David Hayes-trained Spacecraft. But the six-year-old will have to show a big form turnaround if he is to win the Lord’s Stakes as he has not been in the winner’s stall in more than two years.

Others included in Lord Stakes nominations are Darren Weir-trained entire Hurdy Gurdy Man and last-start winner Down Under Boy.
