Pop Culture Accepts For 2012 WA St Leger Final Field

A total of 12 horses have accepted for a run in the Listed WA St Leger, which is scheduled to take place at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday December 22, 2012.

Included in the 2012 WA St Leger final field and barrier draw is Pop Culture.

Pop Culture was originally nominated for the 2012 CB Cox Stakes this weekend, for which she has since accepted.

However, trainer Colin Webster feels a run in the 2012 WA St Leger will better suit Pop Culture’s preparation as she makes her way towards the Group 1 Perth Cup on January 1, 2013.

“I’ve discussed my thoughts with Pop Culture’s owners,” Webster said.

“A switch to the St Leger won’t be finalised before another conference between the mare’s owners, but I’ll recommend a St Leger start.

“Pop Culture has 56kg in both races and Cox prize money is much higher. But the St Leger, restricted to three and four-years-olds, looks an easier assignment.

“In my opinion, the St Leger would be Pop Culture’s ideal lead-up race to the cup.

“I would prefer her not to tackle a tough event like the Cox Stakes, at this stage of her cup preparation.”

Pop Culture has won six of her 15 race starts and has earned more than $400,000 in prize money during her horse racing career.

The four-year-old won the Listed Ascot Gold Cup two starts back, before placing an impressive fourth in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic last start.

Pop Culture has drawn barrier seven for the 2012 WA St Leger and will be ridden by jockey Troy Turner in the race.

Rebelson and Reign Of Terror are also included in the 2012 WA St Leger final field and barrier draw.
