Top New Zealand mare Shez Sinsational appears set for another Australian stint next year and could even feature in the Group 1 2013 BMW (2400m) at Sydney’s 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival.
The Auckland Cup winner has twice competed at Queensland’s winter carnival and while trainer Allan Sharrock is keen to again head to Brisbane, he also harbours greater ambitions.
“I’d like to think we could go to Sydney for a race like the Tancred (BMW) and then maybe look at a couple of races in Brisbane,” Sharrock told New Zealand’s The Informant.
The Ekraar mare first came to Australia as a three-year-old and had immediate success, running third in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and second in the Queensland Derby.
She arrived this year on the back of an Auckland Cup win and after taking out the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes first-up failed to make an impact in either the Doomben or Eagle Farm Cups.
But Shez Sinsational has returned to her winning ways in her homeland of late, having scored victory in her three most recent starts.
The highly successful mare took out the Group 1 Spring Classic (2040m) in October before winning the Group 3 Lindauer Stakes (2000m) last month and the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.
The winner of 12 of 29 starts overwhelmed her trainer with her performance on the weekend and will now defend her title in the Group 1 Zabeel Classic (2000m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.
“She was a long way off peak fitness and that’ll take some of the fat off her before the Zabeel Classic,” Sharrock said.
“She’s just a phenomenal mare.”
Shez Sinsational was a convincing winner in the top New Zealand staying race last year, claiming a 1/2 length win over Beyron and Doctor Fremantle.
