2012 Razor Sharp Handicap Field & Barriers Released

The final field and barrier draw for the major support race on the Villiers Stakes Day program at Warwick Farm Racecourse this weekend has been released with 11 classy sprinters set to face off in the Razor Sharp Handicap 2012.

Whitefriars is the top-weight for the 2012 Razor Sharp Handicap in Sydney this Saturday

Due to bring the day’s racing to a close as Race 8 at 5:40pm (AEST) this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) is shaping up as a beauty with the field led by Rick Worthington’s veteran seven-year-old Whitefriars.

Drawn in gate seven the 61.5kg top-weight hasn’t raced since winning the Group 2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley back on January 28, Whitefriars having suffered a number of health issues and setbacks over the year.

Worthington is confident the gelding is back to race fitness and has accepted them for the Razor Sharp but may withdraw them in favour of New Year’s Day’s Carrington Stakes over 1100m at the same track.

Following Whitefriars in the Razor Sharp Handicap field and weights are then the Joe Pride-trained Hypurr (57.5kg) and the Peter Snowden-trained Skytrain (56.5kg) who both also resume racing on Saturday.

Fastnet Rock six-year-old Hypurr adds interest as the former Hong Kong star has their first run down under for Pride since being transferred from John Size’s international operation earlier this year, the horse last seen finishing eighth in the Group 1 The Queen’s Sliver Jubilee Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin in early March.

Skytrain meanwhile has their first run since August, the Lonhro seven-year-old shooting for their first black type win since the Listed Show County Quality in the wet at Warwick Farm in August of last year.

Horses that come off good recent form then include the likes of Desleigh Forster’s Queensland sprinter Adebisi (barrier three) coming off a good fifth to Startsmeup in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 8, the Chris Waller-trained Riva De Lago, John O’Shea’s Strategic mare Bound To Blush last seen running a close second to Jester’s Girl in the listed Travel Associates Classic in Brisbane at the start of the month and Stratford from the Hawkes family stables.
