Whitefriars Heads 2012 Razor Sharp Handicap Nominations

Rick Worthington’s multiple Group winner Whitefriars tops the Razor Sharp Handicap 2012 nominations for this weekend’s major support race on Warwick Farm’s Villiers Stakes Day program.

Whitefriars has been nominated to resume racing in the 2012 Razor Sharp Handicap this Saturday

A total of 12 sprinters were entered for this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m), local seven-year-old Arena gelding Whitefriars the top-rated of the hopefuls.

Last time out Whitefriars became a dual Group 2 winner with a narrow victory in the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley back on January 28.

They race for the first time since showing they were ready to get back to race conditions after nearly a year on the sidelines with two winning Warwick Farm trials over 800m in November.

Other notable runners resuming in the Razor Sharp Handicap this year include the Peter Snowden-trained Skytrain and Matthew Smith’s Slow The Flow.

Lonhro seven-year-old Skytrain will shoot for just their second stakes victory at career start number 28 on Saturday, the always honest veteran last seen finishing fourth to Mrs Onassis in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill in August.

Slow The Flow meanwhile enjoyed a stellar autumn back in February with successive Group placings when second in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield – the Hussonet mare looking to return in the same form this summer.

“She’s fit and well now and is a genuine black-type mare who might take a run or two but has plenty of ability,” Smith said of Slow The Flow who will be ridden by Christian Reith on Saturday.

There are then a number of gallopers coming off some good recent form including the Chris Waller-trained Riva De Lago last seen running a first-up second over 1100m at Rosehill, John O’Shea’s recent Travel Associates Classic runner-up Bound To Blush and David Vandyke’s Choisir mare Choice Words.

Another notable Razor Sharp nominee is the Desleigh Forster-trained Brisbane galloper Adebisi, a close fifth in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at Eagle Farm back at the start of the month, who is dually nominated for Saturday having also been entered for the $200,000 Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) at Doomben in Queensland.

See below for the full list of 2012 Razor Sharp Handicap nominations with the final field and barrier draw due for release on Wednesday.
