CB Cox Stakes 2012 Final Field Released

Perth’s Summer Racing Carnival continues at Ascot on Saturday with a bumper card highlighted by the Group 2 $225,000 2012 CB Cox Stakes (2100m).

A quality 16-horse field is headed by consistent performer Mr Moet who tasted Group 1 glory last month when defeating star galloper Luckygray in the Railway Stakes (1600m).

The Adam Durrant-trained gelding was unable to produce a Group 1 double in the Kingston Town Classic but performed admirably to run second as Luckygray turned the tables.

The son of Mosayter has been of of the most consistent horses in Western Australia in recent times, winning 11 of 25 starts on his way to more than $1 million in prizemoney.

Also stepping out for Durrant is Chester Road who won the Listed Carbine Club Of WA Stakes (1400m) first-up before finishing eighth in the 15-horse Kingston Town Classic field.

Mr Moet is one of two Group 1 winners included in the CB Cox Stakes field, with the other last year’s Kingston Town Classic winner Playing God.

The five-year-old has won more than $1.4 million in prizemoney but will have to produce a form turnaround if he is to upset Mr Moet on Saturday after being beaten by 2 1/2 lengths when sixth in the Kingston Town Classic last start.

But the Neville Parhham-trained entire has proven his ability both at home and in the east, finishing third to Black Caviar in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield in February.

Lords Ransom will be out to claim a second CB Cox title after winning in 2009 while veteran gelding Battle Emblem is searching for his 11th career victory in what will be his 63rd start.

Others in the CB Cox Stakes field include the Patinack-owned Shamardashing and Kingston Town third placegetter God Has Spoken.
