Crown Oaks winning filly Dear Demi is gearing up for her new season return with trainer Clarry Conners naming the ATC Australian Oaks 2013 in April as her major goal during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
The daughter of Dehere already boasts an impressive record of four wins and six minor placings from 15 starts so far boasting over $1.13 million in prize money, well rewarding her connections who paid a modest $130,000 for her as a yearling at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sales.
Dear Demi didn’t break her maiden status until her seventh career start during her two-year-old season when she took out the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) in the wet at Randwick in April after which she finished a brave third behind Gai Waterhouse’s superstar colt Pierro in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over the same track and distance seven days later.
Returning after a four month break Dear Demi enjoyed more stakes success second-up when she took out the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm, another spring highlight being her second to Commanding Jewel in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).
Of course her biggest success to date came at the end of her campaign when she beat home a good field of fellow three-year-old fillies to score her first elite level victory in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 8.
Now Conners is eyeing more Group 1 success for the valuable youngster who returned to his Warwick Farm base last week with the $550,000 Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 20, 2013 on the agenda.
Looking a million dollars according to her trainer, Dear Demi will also be entered to take on the boys in the lucrative $1.5 million Group 1 ATC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick seven days before the Oaks but the latter is the more likely option.
“She will race in Sydney only next autumn,” Conners said.
“The plan is to run her in the fillies’ races through to the Oaks but we will nominate her for the Derby.”
As for her resuming run Conners is considering both the $1750,00 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on February 16 and the $175,000 Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at the same track on March 9.
“We will probably get her ready to resume in either the Light Fingers Stakes or the Surround then she can get into that rhythm where there is a race for her every fortnight,” he said.
