Coyle Screams for Doncaster Mile 2013

Warwick Farm trainer Jason Coyle has named the 2013 Doncaster Mile during next year’s Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival as the major new season aim for his promising four-year-old Scream Machine.

Excites gelding Scream Machine has won back-to-back races at Rosehill this month most recently scoring a controversial success over 1900m last Saturday in a Benchmark 90 handicap on protest.

Scream Machine was second over the line behind Marden by a quarter length but their jockey Kathy O’Hara, who fell off her first mount of the day, lodged a successful protest against the first-past-the-post’s jockey Peter Robl.

“I thought both sets of interference definitely cost the horse any chance of winning the race legitimately so it had to be won in the stewards’ room,” eventual winning trainer Coyle said.

It was an easier assignment for the bargain $13,000 buy from the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales, Coyle opting to race them in the lower class event instead of this weekend’s $175,000 Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at their home track.

To be sent out for a spell now Scream Machine will come back in the autumn targeting some of the festivals major middle distance features including the lucrative $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 20, Coyle tipping improvement from them next time in.

“We’ll definitely throw in a nomination for the Doncaster and we’ll see where he sits when he comes back,” Coyle said.

“The whole time along I’ve always said ‘next preparation’, and we’ve been patient with the horse.

“Hopefully I get it right and when he comes back as a later four-year-old in the autumn carnival he will find that extra couple of lengths that he probably needs.”

The 2012 Villiers Stakes this Saturday meanwhile attracted 21 early entries with the ballot and weights led by the Ron Quinton-trained Monton who comes off a much improved second to Malavio in the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m).
