Ascot Results – Hard Ball Get Wins 2012 Lee Steere Classic

Hard Ball Get has won last Saturday’s 2012 Lee Steere Classic at Ascot Racecourse in Perth.

The three-year-old won the Group 3 Lee Steere Classic by almost a length ahead of Fuddle Dee Duddle, who placed second, and Passion Cantata, who passed the post in third.

Hard Ball Get has now won three of his four race starts and has earned more than $160,000 in prize money during his short career.

The win was the first Australian stakes win for sire Aussie Rules, who has previously enjoyed success with his northern hemisphere progenies.

However, what should have been a happy moment for trainer Simon Miller, turned into devastation after stable mate Miss Bux sustained career-ending injuries in the race.

Miss Bux was the favourite to take out the $125,000 Lee Steere Classic, however, things immediately seemed amiss as she fell away from the pack and finished a worrying last.

A veterinary examination quickly discovered that Miss Bux had severed a tendon in her hind leg and will likely never race again despite all possible actions taken by Miller and his stable.

“I am just devestated,” Miller said. “She was my best filly and I had big plans for her.

“I hoped to take her across to Adelaide to run in the Group 1 Robert Sangster”

The injury was caused by interference from Fuddle Dee Duddle, who shifted into Miss Bux during the race.

Fuddle Dee Duddle’s jockey, Glenn Smith, has subsequently been suspended for 21 days.
