Poste Restante Strengthens 2012 Summer Cup Claims – Eagle Farm Race 1 Results

Former New Zealand mare Poste Restante further strengthened her 2012 Summer Cup credentials with a win in the Mount Franklin Benchmark 95 Handicap (2100m) at Eagle Farm today.

Poste Restante

Poste Restante has continue her strong form on the way to the Summer Cup at Randwick on Boxing Day

Trainer Desleigh Forster has had the Group 3 Summer Cup (2400m), which will be held on Boxing Day at Randwick,  in Poste Restante’s sights since her preparation began with a narrow victory at Doomben in October.

Today’s win was her third straight and fourth from five starts this preparation as she justified a short $1.70 price in her first outing with blinkers applied.

The daughter of Postponed jumped well from barrier three and jockey Michael Cahill allowed her to settle just behind the lead set by Break The Ice.

With the race run at a slow tempo, Cahill pulled the Group-placed mare into the clear at the top of the straight and she showed her quality to quickly get to Break The Ice and hold him off to secure a half-length win.

It was the final Summer Cup lead-up for Poste Restante who showed her ability to compete at higher levels both in New Zealand and at the Queensland Winter Carnival.

Formerly trained by Howie Matthews, Poste Restante finished fourth in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks in March and backed that up to score runner-up honours in the Group 3 Manawatu Classic.

The winner of six of 20 starts was beaten by a long-neck when third to Brambles in the Group 3 Rought Habit Plate at Eagle Farm in May before failing to reproduce the form in the Queensland Oaks or Derby.
