Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Kelso Wood’s Group 1 winning colt Sizzling has opened top of the futures markets for next month’s 2013 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, the second richest race on the Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day program.
A winner of five of their 10 career starts to date, the most notable of which was the Group 1 The TJ Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm back in June, Sizzling was last seen running a close sixth when beaten under two lengths by Nechita in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
They are tipped for improvement when they go up in distance however, their main summer aim being the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 12, 2013.
Currently Sizzling leads the Magic Millions Guineas odds at the Aussie bookmakers paying $5.
That price could also firm if they win their next-up race, the Snitzel three-year-old odds-on to take out the $100,000 Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday.
There are then two other single-figure chances in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting markets currently with Driefontein ($6.50) and Urban Groove ($8).
One of 13 Magic Millions Guineas nominees for Gai Waterhouse, Fastnet Rock filly Driefontein was the winner of the big one on Magic Millions Day this year taking out the 2YO Classic after a successful protest over her stablemate No Looking Back.
She hasn’t raced since a second to Snitzerland in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill back in August but showed she was nearing a return to the track with a blistering three length barrier trial win over 1000m at Randwick in early December.
Urban Groove meanwhile is another MM Guineas hopeful from the Sydney stables of Waterhouse, the Charge Forward filly having raced just three times to date for two wins and a good fourth behind Norzita in the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes over the Randwick mile in October.
Other shorties in the Magic Millions Guineas markets then include Waterhouse’s MM Classic and Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up No Looking Back ($11) who hasn’t run since her 10th to star stable-mate Pierro in the Golden Slipper, the well-tried John O’Shea-trained Hoss Amor ($12) and progressive Gold Coast galloper Lucky Hussler ($16).
