Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Trainer John O’Shea expects Iggi Pop to be at his best for tomorrow’s 2012 Listed Christmas Cup at Rosehill Racecourse.
The four-year-old will be having just his ninth race start in the $100,000 race and will be out to claim his third career victory.
Iggi Pop placed third in the $85,000 Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap at Rosehill Racecourse last start and will be hoping to go two better in the 2012 Christmas Cup.
The Savabeel gelding will step up to 2,400 metres in the Christmas Cup, which O’Shea believes is a much more suitable distance for the galloper.
“His runs have been really good but he’s racing like a horse that needs a good bit of ground,” O’Shea said.
The trainer will be observing Iggi Pop’s run keenly in the 2012 Christmas Cup before deciding whether to press on to the Group 3 Summer Cup on December 26.
“We set him for these two races and he’s coming to a nice peak now so I’m pretty happy with where he’s at,” he said.
Iggi Pop will be chasing his first Black Type success in the 2012 Christmas Cup after gallant performances during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival earlier this year.
He placed fourth in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes at Rosehill Racecourse, before finishing fifth in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate behind Fat Al.
