Leading Queensland trainer Robert Heathcote will saddle up three top chances in the Listed 2012 Just Now Quality (1300m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday in what is one of the day’s feature races.
Fillydelphia (59.5kg), Funtantes (58.5kg) and Fire Up Fifi (56kg) are the three highest-weighted horses in the field and while Heathcote believes they are all genuine winning chances, he thinks Fire Up Fifi may have a slight edge.
The Eagle Farm-based trainer told Racing Queensland he is expecting the grey mare to improve on her first-up fifth in a race that is likely to deliver a more favourable tempo.
“I really liked Fire Up Fifi’s last run,” Heathcote said.
“She was only beaten two lengths and got to the line strongly in a race that suited on the speed horses.
“I’m just giving her a slight edge over the other pair but it’s really a toss of the coin job.”
A daughter of Bradbury’s Luck, Fire Up Fifi had a mixed start to her career but stood tall last preparation when she won five of seven starts and secured two minor placings during a seven-start winter campaign.
Heathcote has always rated Fillydelphia highly but admits she is a mare that can be difficult to manage.
“As she’s gotten older we’ve had to be more protective with her but she should run a big race,” he said.
Heathcote was impressed with Funtantes last-start third where she was narrowly beaten in the Listed Travel Associates Classic but admits the 1300m is a challenge especially from a wide barrier 12 position.
All three feature at the top end of the betting market, with Fire Up Fifi ($5.50) a slight favourite ahead of Michael Lakey’s Risk Aversion ($6.00), Fillydelphia ($6.00) and Funtantes ($6.50).
