The feature race in Sydney this weekend is the Listed 2012 Christmas Cup (2400m) at Rosehill which will see 10 horses compete for $100,000 in prizemoney.
Topping the market is in in-form gelding Cantonese ($3.30) from the Bjorn Baker stable who is slightly ahead of veteran last-start winner Fiumicino ($4.20).
Also featuring under double figures in the Christmas Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au are Chris Waller’s ATC Cup placegetter Moriarty ($5.50), four-year-old gelding Iggi Pop ($6.50) and the consistent King Utah ($9.00).
Horses at bigger odds in the Christmas Cup market include Queensland traveller Trajet and New Zealand mare Fromelles ($16).
Need some help working out who to back in the Rosehill feature? Races.com.au are here to help as the form experts have been hard at work to bring you some expert picks.
#7 Iggi Pop $6.50
Has been solid in three runs this preparation but has performed like a horse looking for more ground and gets that here. Has been set for the race and is now rock-hard fit.
Drawn well in barrier two, gets in on the minimum of 54kg and will be given every chance by experienced jockey Glyn Schofield.
Cantonese is coming towards the end of his preparation but has been outstanding this time in work.
Has won five of his nine most recent starts and not finished worse than fourth in the others suggesting he will be right in the mix again here. A proven stayer who has drawn well in barrier four.
Trajet travels down from Queensland where has been performing consistently. Was beaten a head by quality mare Poste Restante last start and a repeat of that performance will see him challenge the top elects.
