Werribee Cup 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Just seven horses will contest Sunday’s Listed 2012 Werribee Cup (2600m) with Melbourne Cup runner Unusual Suspect to carry the topweight of 60.5kg.

Unusual Suspect

Unusual Suspect is the Werribee Cup topweight

The Michael Kent-trained import has drawn barrier five and will be out to back up a strong third-place performance in the Sandown Cup last month.

King Diamond will be out to score his second consecutive country cup after taking top honours in the Ballarat Cup on November 25.

The horse he narrowly edged out on that occasion was Pelicano who gets the chance to exact revenge of Sunday.

The Tony McEvoy-trained gelding is only lightly raced but is a consistent performer having won five times and placed twice from 11 career starts.

Also bringing consistent form into the race is Lucky Angel who is coming off a three-length win at Mooneey Valley and has finished in the top four in her 10 most recent outings.

The Redoute’s Choice mare has won just three of 20 starts but has secured minor placings on an impressive 11 occasions.

Another last-start winner in the field is Clinton McDonald-trained gelding Apres who is coming off a dominant two-length victory at Moonee Valley on December 7.

Experienced gelding I’m Jake competed against some of the best stayers in the country in the spring in events such as the Herbert Power Stakes and will appreciate a drop back in class after running a solid fourth in the Sandown Cup.

The final runner in the Werribee Cup field is Bendigo-based veteran Niptious who will be having an incredible 117th start on Sunday and is fresh off a third-place finish in the Latrobe Valley Cup.
