Emerging Victorian trainer Sam Pritchard-Gordon has received a boost to his team after acquiring French Group 1 winner Mutual Trust.
An Australian syndicate purchased the son of Cacique and Pritchard-Gordon has been charged with the task of helping him to recapture his best form.
Pritchard-Gordon, originally from the UK, works out of Mornington and told Racing Victoria he is excited about his recent stable addition.
“Hopefully I can rejuvenate his career, which has come to a bit of a standstill,” Pritchard-Gordon said.
As a three-year-old Mutual Trust won the first four starts of his career including the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat but failed to make an impact as a four-year-old in three starts in the US.
Pritchard-Gordon believes 1600m is the most suitable distance for the import but has not ruled out testing him over 2000m in events such as the 2013 Australian Cup.
“Whether we’ll be aiming for an Australian Cup remains to be seen, I’d like to think he could do,” he said.
“But then again he’s a colt that has only been doing light work in the last four to five months as opposed to racing, so it could take a lot longer to get him fit.”
The $1 million Australian Cup will take place on March 9, 2013 at Flemington.
If Mutual Trust does make it to the start line he will be looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow import Manighar who won the prestigious race on his way to a Group 1 treble that also included the Ranvet Stakes and BMW in Sydney.
