Top colt Sizzling has opened a short-priced favourite to make a winning return in the Listed 2012 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm in what will be his first race in his home state since the winter carnival.
Currently paying $1.90 at bookmaker.com.au, the Kelso Wood-trained three-year-old returns to Queensland after a brief campaign at Melbourne’s spring carnival.
The son of Snitzel was beaten by just half a length when fourth to Snitzerland in the $250,000 Blue Sapphire before finishing sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
It is likely the Group 1 winner will tackle the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas in January where he will take on the likes of Gai Waterhouse pair Driefontein and No Looking Back.
No other horse comes close to Sizzling in the Gold Edition Plate market with the in-form Lucky Hussler the next best at $7.
The Kent Fleming-trained colt is chasing a third consecutive victory as is The Conspirator who is being offered at far greater odds of $17.
Apart from Lucky Hussler, three other horses fall under double figures and they are Saluter ($8), Discreet ($8) and Reflectance ($8).
Both Saluter and Reflectance are coming off wins while Discreet was last seen running fourth to The Conspirator in the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap at Eagle Farm on December 1.
The Patinack-owned Reflectance has shown strong form in his young career, winning three of six starts and only missing a place on one occasion.
Some runners in good form at big prices include Qfighter ($21) who has finished in the top three in all three starts this preparation, last-start winner Mishani Persuader ($26) and the Jai Phillips-trained Players Choice ($26).
