Former New Zealand mare Poste Restante will chase a third consecutive victory at Eagle Farm this weekend before travelling south for the Group 3 2012 Summer Cup (2400m) which will be held at Randwick on Boxing Day.
The four-year-old has been in terrific form since joining the Desleigh Forsters’ Eagle Farm team following the Brisbane Winter Carnival, having won three of four starts this preparation.
Formerly trained by Howie Matthews, Poste Restante kicked off her campaign with victory at Doomben in October before a fourth-place finish was followed by two strong wins.
The daughter of Postponed has thus far received little luck at the barrier draw but Forster is excited about this weekend’s Mount Franklin Benchmark Handicap after her new stable addition received a favourable barrier three position.
“She’s either drawn the outside barrier or one from the outside in every start,” Forster said.
Forster will apply blinkers to the dual stakes-placed galloper and said it is the perfect opportunity to experiment ahead of the major goal of the Summer Cup.
Poste Restante will carry 58kg on Saturday which represents a 2.5kg rise from her most recent start.
Forster said she is not concerned by the weight and believes the race will top the stayer off nicely for the Summer Cup.
Poste Restante arrived on Australian soil in May for the Brisbane winter carnival on the back of a fourth-place finish in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks and a second in the Group 3 Manawatu Classic.
She produced a strong performance first-up in Australia to finish a long-neck behind Brambles when third in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate before struggling to make an impact in either the Queensland Oaks or Queensland Derby.
