Full Reign Ready for 2013 Perth Cup Challenge

They may be well down the ante-post markets for the Perth Cup 2013 on New Year’s Day but the Peter & Matthew Giadresco-trained Full Reign is ready for the challenge according to connections.

The Blackfriars four-year-old is one of 32 stayers making up the early entries for the $500,000 Group 2 Golden River Developments Perth Cup (2400m), running at Ascot Racecourse on the first of January, but is a double figure roughie in the early markets.

Full Reign has won five of their 11 career starts to date including their two most recent runs over 1500m and 1800m respectively at Ascot in November and December.

They are also a black type winner having taken out the Listed Challenge Stakes (1500m), also at Ascot, back in February during last season’s Perth Summer Racing Carnival.

They had three other Listed assignments following their maiden stakes success but failed to finish better than fourth in all three during March of this year.

While they are yet to win at Group level or over further than 1800m, co-trainer Peter Giadresco is quietly confident that Full Reign has what it takes to step up in class and distance and be competitive in the Perth Cup 2013.

“He finished fast to win over 1800m at Ascot last Saturday week and is on target for the cup,” Giadresco said.

“I’m confident he will win again when racing over 2200m next week.”

Perth Cup odds meanwhile are led by the Adam Durrant-trained Chester Road, an eight-time winner, who is tipped to improve on their eighth in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) last time out.

Chester Road is then followed in the markets by stablemate and Railway Stakes winner Mr Moet who was a brave second in the Kingston Town, former European champion Doctor Fremantle and fellow Eastern state raider Shamardsashing who has had two runs in WA for the season.
