Exotic Sequel on Mission to Make 2013 Magic Million Guineas Field

Queensland trainer Norm Hilton has no doubts about the ability of Exotic Sequel to compete in the 2013 Magic Millions Guineas but knows he faces an uphill battle to gain a place in the field for the $1 million race.

Exotic Sequel faces a tough ask to make the Magic Millions Guineas field which is set to include the likes of Sizzling (pictured)

The lightly-raced gelding impressed in just the second start of his career on Wednesday when he held off his rivals to claim a half-length win and break his maiden status in the Coca-Cola Amatil Plate at Doomben.

The win took his prize takings to $12,050 but he will have to improve that considerably to gain a start in the competitive Magic Millions Guineas field.

Hilton described the youngster as a “real push-button type” following  the mid-week win and admits he will have to test him into Saturday company in order to chase a Magic Millions berth.

The victory improved his position to between 70th and 80th in the order of entry for the Gold Coast feature.

Topping the order of entry for the Magic Millions Guineas is 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Driefontein who has recovered from the injury which cut short her spring campaign.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly has performed well in two recent barrier trials and is likely to start as one of the favourites if she makes it to the start line.

Fellow early fancy Sizzling sits at second in the order of entry and the Queensland colt will line up in the Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Kelso Wood-trained colt was one of the stars of the Brisbane winter carnival and also went within half a length of Snitzerland when fourth in the Blue Sapphire at the Melbourne spring carnival.

Other noteworthy horses in contention for the Magic Millions Guineas include multiple stakes winner Hoss Amor, Blue Diamond runner-up No Looking Back, impressive last-start Brisbane winner Caliente and the Roberth Heathcote-trained Heza Jetsetter.

The Brisbane Summer Series continues at Eagle Farm this Saturday and bookmaker.com.au will be offering outstanding odds.
